Digital Twin of Electric Hybrid aircraft based on FC propulsion system

Project focus on the design of innovative hybrid aircraft configurations in compliance with EASA rules and the development of its digital Twin.  This concerned in particular with the development of a methodology for the design of fuel-cell (FC) based propulsion systems for propeller driven eVTOL  aircraft for urban mobility. The project requires the development of suitable single field models for propulsion, fuel cell/battery energy management system and airframe aerodynamic and structure in combination with  appropriate coupling procedures. High-fidelity simulation approaches and component tests will be performed for validation purposes. Use cases will be studied to demonstrate the capabilities of the methodology. The study of innovative airframe concepts with multifunctional capabilities will be also taken into account as well as their impact in terms of safety and regulation requirements. Electromechanical models will be developed and dedicated experimental test performed to validate theoretical models.

Background and skills of ideal Doctoral candidate:

Master in Aerospace Eng. with experience in aircraft design and numerical simulation. Ability to work in teams with different backgrounds. Ability to adapt to program variations.
