Biography
Diego Pugliese, born in Turin on 19/05/1986, is a Fixed-Term Researcher type A at the Institute of Materials, Physics and Engineering of the Department of Applied Science and Technology of the Polytechnic of Turin since November 2018. He obtained the Bachelor's Degree in Physics at the University of Turin in October 2008 and the Master's Degree in Environmental Physics in October 2010. In February 2014 he obtained the PhD in Physics at the Polytechnic of Turin, discussing a thesis on new concepts in the field of dye-sensitized solar cells, a low cost and environmentally friendly third generation solar device. From March 2014 to October 2018 he was first a Research Fellow and then a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the same Institute where he is currently a Researcher. His current research activity mainly concerns the design, synthesis and characterization of active glasses based on non-silicate oxides highly doped with rare-earth ions (Er3+, Yb3+, Yb3+/Er3+, Nd3+, Sm3+) for the fabrication of compact lasers and optical amplifiers operating in the near-infrared spectral region. He is also involved in the synthesis and characterization of biocompatible and degradable calcium-phosphate glasses and of multifunctional bioresorbable optical fibers made of these glasses capable of transporting light and acting as a drug release system in capillary form for in-body monitoring, diagnostics and photo-dynamic therapy. He has participated in 7 International Conferences, 5 of which as an Invited Speaker. He is the author of 49 peer-reviewed articles in international journals, 3 book chapters, and a patent for industrial invention. He is a member of the Italian Society of Optics and Photonics (SIOF), of the Optical Society of America (OSA), and of the Inter-University Consortium of Materials Science and Technology (INSTM).
