After graduation

Your career as a biomedical engineer starts here. You will be able to find a job in:

  • companies that manufacture and/or market medical devices;
  • healthcare companies within clinical engineering services;
  • service companies working in the field of health technology management;
  • industrial and university research centres.

You will be able to choose from a variety of career fields:

  • BIOMEDICAL DEVICE DESIGN SPECIALIST, who supports the design process of devices, including implants, aimed at monitoring, diagnosis and therapeutic interventions.
  • SPECIALIST DESIGNER OF ARTIFICIAL ORGANS AND PROSTHESES, who contributes to the design of devices that support or structurally and/or functionally replace organs or biological sensory, motor or metabolic functions.
  • PRODUCT SPECIALIST, who supports the sales department both in pre-sales, dealing with the correct identification of the specifications, and in next phases, providing assistance and/or training to health care professionals in hospitals and operating rooms.
  • CLINICAL ENGINEER, who works within healthcare facilities and is responsible for the procurement and management of healthcare technologies.
  • RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST, a professional who is able to contribute to research by analysing existing literature, applying and/or developing innovative methods and supporting the clinical validation of the product.

In addition to these career opportunities, biomedical engineers are now increasingly sought after by industries and organisations that require expertise in any subject related to the human body, nutrition and the environment. Examples are to be found in many sectors, including sports and telemonitoring on human health and safety.
