Spatial Planning, Evaluation and Management

The area’s research scope concerns urban and territorial transformations, focusing on the profiles and contents of spatial planning and urban regeneration, as well as the analysis and evaluation of complex social, economic, energy, technical and environmental problems also in support of decision-making processes.

Research activities address, on the one hand, planning and evaluation techniques for spatial development; on the other hand, the understanding of multilevel territorial governance and management, with the aim of addressing societal and spatial challenges of ecological transition, social and spatial inclusion and justice.

The research approach includes both qualitative and quantitative methodologies; it concerns the application of approaches, methods and techniques for spatial and urban planning, socio-ecological planning and urban design, as well as advanced models for integrated evaluations. The scientific investigation includes, in appropriate cases, the involvement of stakeholder groups through multi-scale approaches in the different project phases.
