Call for papers | Special Issue “Navigating Climate Challenges in Modern Heritage”
A call for papers is open for the Special Issue “Navigating Climate Challenges in Modern Heritage”, edited by Özgün Özçakır (Middle East Technical University, Türkiye) and Mesut Dinler (Politecnico di Torino), to be published in the journal Built Heritage (Springer).
The Special Issue addresses the impact of climate change on modern heritage, focusing on the challenges of preserving 20th-century built environments while improving their environmental performance. Particular attention is given to the dual role of modern heritage as both a contributor to and a victim of the climate crisis, as well as to the need for more inclusive and globally diverse perspectives.
Contributions are invited on topics including climate-responsive adaptation of modern materials and buildings, governance and policy frameworks, and the relationship between building-scale interventions and broader urban and landscape strategies.
Deadline for abstract submission: 30 June 2026.
