Sacred architecture of canonical modernity
The 9th edition of the CIARC, to be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, from November 20 to 22, 2025, will focus on the study of canonical modern sacred architecture, specifically buildings constructed between 1925 and 1975.
Each author is expected to focus on the analysis of a single worship building built during this historical period. Systematic territorial studies may also be accepted, particularly in regions where this type of research has not yet been conducted.
Each paper should be based on unpublished sources, preferably archival or personal, and bring to light the stories behind each case: stories that recount the process of construction, adaptation to the natural and social context, the relationship with the evolution of liturgy, or the — sometimes extremely delicate — processes of conservation or restoration.
These may be personal or collective stories, centered on architectural works that, at the time, reflected the sentiments of a community, the artistic vision of an architect, or the theological perspective of a religious denomination.
These are works that we have the responsibility to understand and preserve for future generations.
Those interested in participating in the Conference with a paper should send an abstract (200-300 words) with a brief curriculum vitae (100-150 words), in Spanish or English, to the Conference Secretariat (efcobian@gmail.com) before May 15, 2025. Guidelines are available at Comunicaciones.
