A story on touch in robotics: A short visit to the robotics research in IzTech
On Tuesday, 10 February 2026, at 11:00 am, will take place a seminar entitled A story on touch in robotics: A short visit to the robotics research in IzTech with professor M. I. Can Dede, Izmir Institute of Technology.
The seminar will focus on technologies developed for physical human–robot interaction and their applications in industrial and medical contexts, including robotic surgery systems, surgical simulators, and industrial winch systems. The talk is connected to the EU-funded TWIN-IT-ROMANS project, in which Politecnico di Torino is a partner.
Abstract
This presentation covers the technologies developed for physical human-robot interaction in IzTech and their implementation in various industries and applications. These implementations range from robotic surgery systems to surgery simulators and to industrial winch systems.
Speaker: M. I. Can Dede, professor of Mechanical Engineering at Izmir Institute of Technology (IzTech)
Biography
Prof. Dr. M. I. Can Dede graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Middle East Technical University, and Florida International University, earning BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees, respectively. He reintegrated into Turkey by receiving the EU Marie-Curie Fellowship in 2009. He is currently the Chair and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Izmir Institute of Technology (IzTech). He has been the principal investigator for various international and national projects. He has more than 150 publications, including a book, book chapters, articles, papers, and patents on mechanism design, robotics, teleoperation systems, underwater robotics, and haptics. He has served as an Executive Committee Member of IFToMM in 2016-2019 and 2020 – 2023 terms. He is the director of IzTech Robotics Laboratory and Human-Robot Interaction Laboratory, and co-director of Robotic Manufacturing Laboratory in IzTech. He is currently the principal investigator for the EU-funded TWIN-IT-ROMANS project in which POLITO is a partner.
The seminar is open to everyone and will take place in person.
