Biografia

Manuel Carreño Ruiz obtained his Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Seville (US). He has a double MSc degree in Aerospace engineering from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM) and Politecnico di Torino (PoliTO). During his MSc, he did an internship in the fluid dynamics laboratory at UPM in COTURB, a project funded by the European Research Council whose goal is to understand the significance of coherent large-scale structures in turbulent shear flows, such as pipes or boundary layers. He performed his MSc thesis at PoliTO where he studied small-scale rotor aerodynamics using CFD simulations. He obtained a Ph.D. in Aerospace engineering at Politecnico di Torino. His Ph.D. dissertation is entitled "Numerical Simulation and Aerodynamic Design of Small-Scale Rotary-Wing for Unmanned Arial Systems in Terrestrial and Martian Applications". He is currently a Research Fellow at Politecnico di Torino. His research focuses on transition modeling, reduced-order modeling of rotors, very-low and ultra-low Reynolds number flows, and aerodynamic design and optimization of Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAVs). In particular, he studies agricultural MAVs, Martian flight, and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) applications.
