The Great Game - Istanbul | Design Summer School
The Designer Summer School "The Great Game - Istanbul" will be held, in collaboration with PoliTO, in Instambul between 29 August and 8 Semptember 2026, and online from 24 to 25 August 2026.
Programme:
An architecture summer school played as a game.
21 graduate students from Italy, Turkey, and Kosovo assume the roles of competing urban actors (municipalities, developers, civic collectives, infrastructure agencies) and negotiate the future of Kartal, a district in active transformation on Istanbul's Asian shore. The methodology, developed at Politecnico di Torino, finalist for the 2024 EAAE Pedagogy Awards, has previously been played in Detroit, Stazzema, Kiruna, and Belgrade. Istanbul is the next gameboard.

Partner institutions & teaching team:
Upon successful completion, PoliTO students are awarded 3 ECTS credits.
All participants will be issued a joint certificate co-signed by the four partner institutions.
