Call for Papers | A Bridge to the Future: Connecting Cultural Heritage and Climate Change
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Council of Europe Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society, widely known as the Faro Convention, the Castello del Valentino will host the international conference “A Bridge to the Future: Connecting Cultural Heritage and Climate Change” on 27 and 28 October 2025.
The event aims to bring together leading scholars, practitioners, and stakeholders from a variety of disciplines to explore the complex relationship between cultural heritage and climate change.
The Faro Convention represents a landmark in the recognition of European cultural heritage. It promotes a vision of heritage grounded in values, rights, and the active participation of communities. Within this framework, cultural heritage is not merely seen as something to preserve, but as a key resource for human progress, sustainable development, and the promotion of democracy.
By linking cultural heritage with environmental conservation, social cohesion, and economic growth, the Convention offers a roadmap for integrating the past into a sustainable future.
The conference will explore how the Faro Convention influences legal systems, fosters participatory governance, and supports sustainable urban landscape management. Emphasis will be placed on integrating cultural heritage with climate-adapted urban planning and environmental policies. Panels will promote dialogue through the sharing of good practices, experiences, and innovative solutions that link heritage enhancement with green and urban development.
Proposals are invited for papers to be presented at the international conference dedicated to exploring the impact of the Faro Convention on public policies, governance models, and its potential as a tool to foster equitable and lasting environmental practices through the valorization of shared cultural heritage.
