Large bridges: history, theory and conservation
The course aims to present the issues related to the conception and conservation of large bridges, with a particular focus on suspension and long-span bridges. It will address the issue from various perspectives, starting with the historical aspect and that of structural safety degradation.
Professor Siviero (IUAV and eCampus University), who has extensive practical experience as a designer as well as a professor of Structural Engineering, will address the analysis, design, and, above all, conservation aspects of the heritage represented by these structures.
Professor Marandola (IUAV) will trace the evolution of 20th-century Italian bridges, focusing on the Italian prestressed concrete and the work of Riccardo Morandi. She will examine archival records to reveal original engineering challenges and show why understanding construction history is vital for current preservation.
Professors from the Politecnico di Torino will contribute overviews, critical insights, and participate in the discussion.
The course is open to all PoliTo PhD students
Coordinator: Prof. Rosario Ceravolo
Duration 18 hours - Course Code 01WXDUO
