Workshop: Sustainable marine transport and the role of ports in decarbonising energy systems

Within the technical assistance provided to the “30 for 2030” islands and islands groups, special attention is paid to providing the local teams with tools and knowledge to support their development of RE and EE projects.

With this objective, the Clean energy for EU islands secretariat is organizing 20 workshops over three years to promote capacity building on relevant topics.

The workshops are held in person on selected islands and involve representatives from the island transition teams of various interested islands. After each workshop, a knowledge-sharing strategy is envisioned so that all the 30for2030 islands and island groups can benefit from the discussions.

This workshop, which is focused on "Sustainable marine transport and the role of ports in decarbonising energy systems", is part of this series and will take place on Isola di San Pietro, Sardinia, on April 10th 2025. The Politecnico di Torino is the Italian Regional Partner of the Secretariat and is responsible for co-organizing the event through the Marine Offshore Renewable Energy Lab (MOREnergy Lab), a research group of the Dipartimento di Ingegneria Meccanica e Aerospaziale (DIMEAS).

Moreover, the SOFFHICE project (SOFC Hybridization with Internal Combustion Engine fueled by Natural Gas for Maritime Applications) will also participate in the workshop. The project is coordinated by the Politecnico di Torino (STEPS Synergies of Thermo-chemical and Electro-chemical Power Systems research group part of DENERG) and is financed by the PRIN-PNRR initiative.

An opening session will be held on April 9th at 6:00 pm. For all the information visit the website and for registration click here.
