The Spoke 1 will focus on applied research and technology transfer related to the areas of sustainable mobility and aerospace. Such thematic areas are declined in the spoke in a broad sense, including the related enabling infrastructures, both physical and digital, and the digital transformation of the companies operating in the relevant supply chains. These two macro-thematic areas are characterised by a strong academic research legacy for Politecnico di Torino and Spoke Partners and a dense network of relationships with the industrial ecosystem. The macro- thematic areas have direct connection with 3 platforms set up by Politecnico di Torino and related to Manufacturing 4.0, 3D mobility and Aerospace, Circular Economy and Technologies for Sustainability (see Box 1). The three platforms have a clear development roadmap that, in addition to research activities with private firms and a strong commitment of governmental institutions, includes also physical infrastructures whose deployment will significantly re-design the local landscape for innovation. Università degli Studi di Torino, will complement the Platforms of Politecnico di Torino by sharing its research and technology transfer initiatives. In particular, two Interdepartmental Centres will be involved. The NIS Centre on materials research (https://www.nis.unito.it/) with its 7 departments, will coordinate the activities related to materials science and technologies. NIS has a long-standing tradition of high-profile internationally recognized research in the strategic field of materials and it aims at connecting interdisciplinary fundamental research with applied industrial research at all TRL levels, from the lab scale to the market. ICxT(https://icxt.di.unito.it/), was founded in 2014 with the aim of developing innovative IT and technological projects with private and public organizations. The focus of the center is offering a multidisciplinary approach to problem solving and innovative project development.
