Save the date: 10-11th September 2024 - International Conference on Heritage-led development
The “International Conference on Heritage-led development, sharing visions between Italy and Japan. Architectural and Urban Heritage, and the 2025 Expo Legacy” will take place on September 10 at Kobe Design University and on the 11 at Shinkin Bank’s Question Building in Kyoto, including presentations and site visits to compare methodologies and concrete experiences of knowledge, design, and valorisation of the architectural and urban heritage in Italy and Japan. Both countries share great cultural traditions and a millenary urban history, which today must face the challenges determined by the ongoing global changes.
The Conference is part of a series of activities promoted by the Consulate General of Italy in Osaka, which involved Politecnico di Torino to promote and define the framework of profound dialogue around the competencies and the cultural and scientific know-how between Italy and Japan. After the “International Symposium on Robotics Humanity and Healthcare” held at Kansai Medical University on June 21, this represents the second appointment curated by PoliTo Japan Hub and its Japanese partners, paving the road for the upcoming 2025 Expo in Osaka, a significant event that will be greatly influenced by the outcomes of this conference.
The seminar will explore the issue of historic cities at different scales, from those concerning architecture and traditional materials, involving local identities and innovation processes, to those concerning public space and the urban landscape, as issues referred to and defined in the international Unesco documents to which both countries have adhered.
The changes taking place on a global scale, the challenges of sustainability, consistent with the goals of SDG 11, the fragility of heritage and the need to reconcile valorisation with protection, require today, more than in the past, to connect the moments of knowledge, valorisation, project and management. To reflect on these issues, in the direction of heritage-led development, it is proposed that Italian and Japanese experts from the academic and institutional sides be brought together. The aim is to encourage concrete joint research activities, a crucial step towards fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the heritage in both nations.
It will be possible to participate to the conference via remote connection. Please find the link below:
