The students of the first cohort of the Erasmus Mundus Master’s in Manufacturing 4.0 by Intelligent and susTAinable Technologies (meta4.0) took place. On September 24 in Saint-Étienne (France), the final thesis defenses of the 24 students from 17 different countries took place: an event marked the culmination of two years of intensive academic training and the transition of students towards new professional and research opportunities. The day concluded with an official ceremony celebrating the students’ achievements, attended by academic coordinators, partner institutions, and representatives from industry.

The graduating group is composed of people coming from all over the world: Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Turkey, India, El Salvador, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Egypt, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Italy, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Honduras, and South Korea—fully reflecting the international and multicultural dimension of the program. One of them got his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanic Engineering at PoliTO.

The curriculum, promoted by a consortium of prestigious European universities, included in the first-year courses on Advanced Manufacturing at Centrale Lyon ENISE and Materials Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino. In the second year, students chose a specialization at one of four partner institutions: NTNU (Norway), TU Chemnitz (Germany), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), or Centrale Lyon ENISE/Mines Saint-Étienne (France).

At PoliTO, meta4.0 is integrated into the Master’s Degree program in Materials Engineering for Industry 4.0, offered by the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT). The local coordinator is Professor Milena Salvo, supported by Professors Daniele Ugues, Marco Sangermano, and Massimo Messori.

“The graduation of the first students from the meta4.0 program is a moment of great emotion and pride for us,” emphasizes Alberto Sapora, Vice Rector for International Affairs at PoliTO. "It is a tangible demonstration of our university’s commitment to fostering talent and strengthening the process of internationalization. Initiatives of excellence such as meta4.0 not only consolidate academic and scientific ties between countries, but also allow us to look to the future of education and research with confidence."
