AI for Crises and Emergencies: Understanding and Communicating Disasters
The Accademia delle Scienze di Torino and SAPEA (Science Advice for Policy by European Academies), a scientific advisory body to the European Commission, are organizing the conference AI for Crises and Emergencies: Understanding and Communicating Disasters on Friday 12 June 2026, from 9:45 am to 1:00 pm.
The initiative aims to explore the role of artificial intelligence in emergency management, analysing how these technologies can contribute to improving the understanding of critical scenarios and the effectiveness of disaster communication, while also addressing ethical and methodological implications, including issues related to disinformation, algorithmic biases, and the reliability of AI systems.
The event will bring together scholars and researchers from different disciplinary backgrounds to discuss both the opportunities and the challenges related to the use of AI in crisis and emergency contexts. Among the speakers will also be Piero Boccardo, professor at the Interuniversity Department of Regional and Urban Studies and Planning-DIST at Politecnico di Torino.
