Call for abstracts | FORTMED 2027

FORTMED is the International Conference dedicated to the study, analysis and dissemination of Mediterranean fortifications and those built in overseas territories (Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Panama, Peru, etc.), reflecting the spread of construction models, defensive strategies and technical knowledge.

The main objective of FORTMED is to foster the exchange of current research and promote the sharing of results, contributing to a better understanding, enhancement, conservation, management and sustainable use of fortified cultural heritage. In this context, the dissemination of results represents a key tool.

The conference has an interdisciplinary character and involves architects, engineers, archaeologists, historians, geographers, geologists, cartographers, as well as experts in design, restoration and architectural history, together with specialists in tourism, communication and cultural heritage management. The initiative aims to promote a collaborative, integrated and up-to-date approach to research in this field.

In 2027, on the occasion of its tenth edition, the Conference will take place in Valencia, where it was first held in 2015 within the framework of the TOVIVA research project, at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Edificación of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).

The call for contributions is open with the following deadlines:
  • 1 June 2026: abstract submission
