ReSkillSpan: Training Programme to Support Impactful Research Careers

Researchers across the Unite! Alliance are invited to take part in the ReSkillSpan – Training for Impactful Researcher Careers, a new international programme starting in 2026 that aims to strengthen researchers’ transversal skills and support impact beyond academia.
Designed for researchers from all disciplines and career stages (R1–R4), the programme will support participants in developing the competences needed to connect research with policy, industry, communities, and society at large. The training places a strong emphasis on practical application, collaboration, and real-world relevance. This training initiative is part of Unite!’s Training for Faculty and Staff programme.

A comprehensive training experience
The ReSkillSpan programme combines live online workshops, self-paced learning, and peer exchange, offering a flexible and inclusive learning environment. Participants will engage in interactive workshops (2–4 hours each) covering key areas such as:
  • Science communication and public engagement
  • Stakeholder engagement and collaboration
  • Entrepreneurship and innovation skills
  • Career development beyond academia
  • Tools and strategies for creating societal impact
Researchers will also gain access to ready-to-use templates and resources, as well as micro-credentials that formally recognise the skills acquired during the programme.

Mentorship and Impact Projects
A distinctive feature of the programme is its focus on real-world Impact Projects. All participants will be encouraged to reflect on the potential impact of their own research, and around 50 selected researchers will have the opportunity to take part in a dedicated mentorship phase.
During this phase, participants will develop an Impact Project with guidance from experienced mentors, applying the skills learned to concrete challenges and opportunities connected to their research.

Open and free registration
Participation in the ReSkillSpan training programme is free of charge. Interested researchers are invited to register and complete an online self-assessment, which helps them reflect on their current impact-related skills and learning needs. The mentorship phase is optional and requires a separate application.
