PoliTo Cinema | Perfect days dreamin'

Politecnico di Torino returns with the PoliTo Cinema series, which on the first Thursday of every month opens the doors of the Aula Magna to the entire academic community and the public. An opportunity to engage with film screenings dedicated to scientific and social themes.

The next event will take place on Thursday, 5 February at 8:30 p.m. in the Aula Magna at Corso Duca degli Abruzzi 24, where the documentary film Perfect Days Dreamin’ by Lorenzo Ciani will be screened.

The film offers an intense and evocative cinematic journey that invites viewers to slow down, observe, and be carried by images and emotions.
Set in a Japan suspended between silence and overcrowding, director Lorenzo Ciani becomes a silent guide — a contemporary Virgil — through the contradictions of mass tourism. Inspired by the locations featured in Perfect Days by Wim Wenders, the documentary alternates moments of contemplative everyday life with scenes of tourist congestion, questioning the very meaning of travel. Conceived as a present-day Tokyo-Ga — echoing the documentary Wim Wenders made in 1985 to portray Japan during its economic boom — the film includes interviews with model Yoshino Belli and chef Ken Motoyoshi, revealing the role of social media in overtourism and encouraging audiences to rediscover listening, slowness, and respect.

The screening will be preceded by a discussion moderated by Giuseppe Quaglia, Director of the PoliTO Japan Hub, with the participation of:
  • Lorenzo Ciani – Director of Perfect Days Dreamin’
  • Asuka Ozumi – Professor and Translator of Japanese Language at the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Modern Cultures, University of Turin
  • Tatiana Mazali – Professor and Academic Coordinator of the Degree Programmes in Cinema Engineering and Digital Media Engineering
The screening will be in Italian with English subtitles.
