The PhD Days in Energy

The PhD Days in Energetics are organized over two days by the PhD Programme Board in Energetics and involve not only the PhD students but also their supervisors and international experts in the field, who will share their insights and perspectives on the themes of internationalization and AI applied to energy-related topics.

The PhD Days will take place on the following dates:

3 December 2025 | Aula Magna “Giovanni Agnelli” – Politecnico di Torino – Corso Duca degli Abruzzi 24
Starting from 9:00, PhD students—organized into the four research groups of reference—will present the results of their research on the stage of the Aula Magna of Politecnico di Torino. They will use the Pecha Kucha methodology, an innovative presentation format born in Japan and based on a simple rule: 20 slides, each shown for 20 seconds. In total, each presentation lasts 6 minutes and 40 seconds, promoting conciseness, clarity, and visual impact. This method is ideal for communicating complex ideas quickly and effectively, engaging the audience and stimulating creativity.
For the PhD students in Energetics, Pecha Kucha offers a unique opportunity to share their research results and interact with colleagues from other fields. The students will be grouped according to the main research areas of the programme (Building physics and energy systems in future buildings and communities; Industrial energy systems, technologies and materials for the energy transition; Sustainable nuclear energy; Sustainable propulsion and energy systems), thus creating an interdisciplinary context that fosters skill exchange and the development of new collaborations.
Throughout the day, each area will present its work following the Pecha Kucha format. This approach not only provides a concise overview of the research activities carried out by others but also encourages dialogue across different sectors, contributing to the growth of a more cohesive and innovative scientific community.
At the end of the event, the best “speakers” - selected according to clarity, originality, and communication skills - will receive an award in recognition of the excellence of their work and their contribution to knowledge dissemination within the PhD Programme.

4 December 2025 | Salone d'Onore – Castello del Valentino – Viale Mattioli 39, Torino
On 4 December 2025, activities will continue at the Castello del Valentino with two thematic workshops.
In the morning, the first workshop will focus on “Energy in the age of AI: Modeling Material and Systems for a Sustainable Transition”, featuring contributions from four international experts:
  • Prof. Antonio Garcia, CMT-Thermal Engines, Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (Spain)
  • Prof. Piero Baraldi, Department of Energy, Politecnico di Milano (Italy)
  • Dr. Annalisa Cardellini, University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (Switzerland)
  • Prof. Massimo Fiorentini, Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, Aarhus University (Denmark)
In the afternoon, the second workshop will address the topic of internationalization of the PhD Programme in Energetics. Speakers will include:
  • Prof. Roberto Zanino, Energy Department “Galileo Ferraris”, Politecnico di Torino (Italy)
  • Prof. Renato Machado Monaro, University of São Paulo (Brazil), presenting “The Magalhães Network and its role in the internationalization of PhD”
  • Dr. Ilaria Lucentini, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain), with a talk on “The MSCA UNITE!Energy”
After the coffee break, the session will continue with:
  • Dr. Evren Unsal, GSNL-PTX/I/Energy Transition Center Amsterdam (The Netherlands), “SHELL policy of collaboration with Academia in the PhD domain”
  • Dr. Stefano Mezzavilla, SNAM Research (Italy), “SNAM initiative Call4Fellows and policy of collaboration with Academia in the PhD domain”
