Self-assembled biomolecules and materials to prevent oral implant infections and control biomineralization

The seminar will be presented by Dr. Conrado Aparicio, Group Leader of the Bioinspired Oral Biomaterials and Interfaces (BOBI) Lab, ICREA Research Professor and Full Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, UPC – Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.

The seminar will showcase innovative approaches based on the self-assembly of biomolecules and the design of biofunctional materials to address two key challenges in the biomedical field: preventing infections associated with oral implants and controlling biomineralization processes. Strategies leveraging the spontaneous organization of molecules at the nanoscale will be illustrated, enabling the creation of surfaces that selectively modulate biological responses, promote tissue integration, and hinder bacterial adhesion. The talk will offer an interdisciplinary perspective combining materials science, biomedical engineering, and nanotechnology, aiming to develop advanced solutions for implant medicine.

The event will take place on October 14, 2025, in the DIMEAS Meeting Room (Corso Duca degli Abruzzi 24) at 9:30 a.m.
