From Bridge Inspection Toward Population Based Structural Health Monitoring | professor David Ester
Tuesday 13 May 2025 at 4:00 p.m. it will be possible to participate in the seminar organised by Department of Structural, Geotechnical and Building Engineering-DISEG of Politecnico, with a talk by professor David Ester, Senior Lecturer, School of Natural and Built Environment, Queen's University of Belfast.
Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is essential for bridge maintenance, as traditional inspections are infrequent and may not detect subsurface damage. However, SHM implementation faces challenges due to high costs and difficulty in obtaining damage-state data. Population-Based Structural Health Monitoring (PBSHM) addresses this issue by enabling data sharing among similar structures, requiring a reliable method to assess bridge similarity.
Professor David Ester has extensive experience in bridge design and inspection. In particular, his research at Queen's University of Belfast has focused on identifying practical methods for data collection and how to use this data for decision-making.
