How does Biocentis model, simulate and optimize pest control?
CNR - IEIIT - Istituto di Elettronica e di Ingegneria dell’Informazione e delle Telecomunicazioni del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche - is organizing a series of biweekly seminars called "Thursday Seminars". These seminars feature prominent speakers from the scientific, academic, and industrial research communities who discuss topics central to the Institute, offering a cross-sectional view of various application domains and technological fields, while also considering their future developments.
The next seminar will take place online on Thursday, 4 July 2024 at 5:30 pm using the Microsoft Teams platform. The speakers will be Matteo Rucco and Andrea De Antoni (BIOCENTIS), presenting the following topic: "How does Biocentis model, simulate, and optimize pest control?"
Abstract:
In this presentation, we will introduce Biocentis, a pioneering biotechnology startup dedicated to leveraging advanced gene-editing technologies to address critical challenges in agriculture and public health posed by harmful insects, including agricultural pests and human disease vectors. Our approach involves the development of genetic tools aimed at controlling insect populations through the targeted reduction of fertility rates.
Biocentis extends beyond molecular biology; we recognize the role of computer and data sciences in informing and steering strategic decision-making processes. Today's discussion will focus on the modeling and simulation framework currently under development by the Biocentis data team. This framework is designed to provide detailed and precise simulations covering all pertinent aspects of an insect's lifecycle, from genomic and phenotypic characteristics to broader behavioral and ecological dynamics.
