Biography

Federico Bosio graduated from Politecnico di Torino with a double majoring in Materials Engineering at the Department of Applied Science and Technology. In March 2016, he started his Master Science Thesis, getting in touch with the research world thanks to an interesting project on the tribological behavior of cemented carbide cutting tool for tunneling applications. Since November 2016, he primarily worked in the powder metallurgy field as a research fellow. Firstly, he carried out a comprehensive microstructural and tribological characterization of cemented carbides cutting tools and, then, in March 2017, he had to approach to additive manufacturing technologies by joining both European and Italian projects. In November 2017 he started his PhD with Prof. Mariangela Lombardi and Prof. Paolo Fino’s additive manufacturing group at Department of Applied Science and Technology of Politecnico di Torino. Since the very beginning he was involved in an industrial project with Prima Industrie S.p.A, market leader in laser production, working in close contact with the Directed Energy Deposition (DED) of stainless steel and, thanks to the good results, he presented his work at the European Conference of Powder Metallurgy at Bilbao in November 2018. In the meantime, he was working in varied activities aiming at the development and optimization of new aluminum materials for additive manufacturing such as Al-Er, AlSi10Mg-Ag and AlSI10Mg-4Cu.
