Biography

Alessandro Bacchini got his MSc in Aerosapce Engineering in March 2015 from Politecnico di Torino, the diplome Ingenieur Ensica in November 2015 from ISAE-Supaero, and the Master Seeds in Space Exploration in October 2016 from Politecnico di Torino.
From September 2014 to February 2015, he worked as an intern at Piaggio Aerospace, where he helped implement their aerodynamic optimization tool. From April to June 2015, he worked as an intern Business Analyst at MBS Consulting.
From November 2016, he is a Ph.D. student in Aerospace Engineering at Politecnico di Torino and research assistant in the aircraft design group, where he works on non-conventional designs and, in particular, on eVTOL. From March to October 2019, he was a research assistant at the University of Sydney, where he performed wind tunnel tests to measure the drag reduction achievable, retracting the lift propellers of eVTOLs. For his research activity, he was awarded the Arnaldo Rancati prize of 2000 euros by the Istituto Lombardo. This prize is awarded to an Italian citizen under 35 worthy for a new study for the progress of aeronautics and technology industry.
He has also submitted the article Impact of lift propeller drag on the performance of eVTOL lift+cruise aircraft to the journal Aerospace Science and Technology which is now under review.
