Biography

Antonio Vetrò researches and develops experimental methods for improving the quality of software systems and the quality of data. Furthermore, he conducts interdisciplinary studies on the relationship between digital technologies and society: he is currently studying how to detect and mitigate discriminations of automated decision systems, and how to design digital systems in a socially sustainable way.

Other activities and projects related to research

Antonio Vetrò is specialized in experimental methodologies for software engineering, with a focus on software and data quality improvement. He also conducts interdisciplinary studies on the relationship between digital technologies and society. Relying on both approaches, he is currently studying how to detect and mitigate potential discriminations in automated decision systems, and how to design software systems in a socially sustainable way.

Antonio Vetrò is also member of the international committee ISO/IEC JTC1 SC7/WG6 Software and System Engineering - Software Product and System Quality and of the Italian Software Engineering Committee at UNINFO (delegated at ISO for standardisation in information technologies).

Past activities

Antonio has been Director of Research at the Nexa Center for Internet and Society at Politecnico di Torino (Italy) from November 2015 to August 2017 and Research Programs Manager at ORS s.r.l. (https://ors.ai/) from September 2017 to January 2018.

Further in the past, he has been post-doctoral research fellow at the chair of Software and Systems Engineering (https://www.in.tum.de/en/i04/homepage/) at the Technische Universität München (Germany) and junior scientist at the Fraunhofer Center for Experimental Software Engineering (https://www.cma.fraunhofer.org/) in Maryland, USA. He holds a PhD in Information and System Engineering from Politecnico di Torino (Italy), obtained working at the Software Engineering Research Group (https://softeng.polito.it/) with a doctoral thesis on the empirical assessment of the impact of static code analysis on software quality.
