According to the CEI EN 50499 Standard, the following sources of electromagnetic fields (0 Hz-300 GHz):

Industrial electrolysis

Electric welding (fixed stations)

Electric and induction melting furnaces

Induction heating

RF and MW dielectric heating

Dielectric welding

Industrial magnetizers/demagnetizers

RF-activated lamp specifications

RF plasma devices

Electrical systems for material defect detection

Radar

Industrial microwave dryers and furnaces

Base station antennas

Electrical system components (transformers, lines, ...) and appliances with a rated current of 100 A (frequency: 50 Hz)

 require a risk assessment from the ECEM Expert, as they may produce electric, magnetic, and electromagnetic fields at levels exceeding the exposure limits indicated by regulations, potentially causing thermal and bioelectric alterations of human tissues.

 

Other devices or equipment (for example: computers, mobile and cordless phones, battery-powered portable devices, excluding radiofrequency transmitters) should not be considered because, according to the CEI EN 50499 Standard, they produce electromagnetic fields below the population exposure limits.

Warning!

A particular case concerns individuals with implanted medical devices, such as pacemakers, who are considered to be at especially high risk. Therefore, it is necessary for the laboratory manager to indicate, with appropriate signage, the risk areas even if the limits are respected, to alert individuals with devices whose operation could be compromised by field levels even below the limits specified by regulations for healthy individuals.
