The project's protagonists present the Masterplan to PoliTO community
From strategy to choices, from ideas to concrete actions: during the PoliTO University Conference, the strategic building development program of the Politecnico took shape – also visually thanks to a display that will remain visible at the Corso Duca headquarters – and was presented yesterday by the Rector Stefano Corgnati together with the team in charge of developing the program. PoliTO has set itself an ambitious challenge: to build new spaces that can guarantee quality teaching, excellent research and greater dialogue and sharing among the members of the community, with a building development plan that involves investments of over 300 million euros and that involves all Politecnico's locations.
"This building plan is based on three fundamental aspects of my mandate: the introduction of a new teaching model, attention to internationalization policies and the need for large research infrastructures - comments Rector Corgnati - The Masterplan is, in this sense, an important tool for achieving excellence, the construction of new spaces adapted to the needs of the community will thus increase PoliTO prestige and attractiveness”.
At the end of 2022, Politecnico di Torino launched the project with a structure consisting of three teams integrated with the Design, Management, Construction and Safety Area (PROGES): the Masterplan Team, which is responsible for the design direction and concept of the new buildings; the Program Management Advisors Team, composed of teachers with very high skills in the specific areas of reference, to whom the activity of guidance and technical support to the RUPs and the Management is delegated; the Program Management Office (PMO), which acts as a support connecting the teams, the Proges Management and the individual RUPs, with the direct interaction of the Time&Cost Program Mng Advisor. Representing the team, PoliTO General Manager Vincenzo Tedesco, PROGES Manager Concetta Di Napoli, Masterplan Group Coordinator Antonio De Rossi and Masterplan Design Manager Carlo Deregibus, all professors at the Department of Architecture and Design-DAD, Building Program Management Advisor Giorgio Garzino, professor at the Department of Structural, Construction and Geotechnical Engineering-DISEG, and Time&Cost Program Management Advisor Alberto De Marco, professor at the Department of Management and Production Engineering-DIGEP.
A team that brings together different and heterogeneous skills for a single objective, the creation by 2030 of a Campus System - the Engineering Campus and the Architecture, Design and Planning Campus - and Innovation Hubs dedicated to specific themes, with a strategic rationalization of spaces and promoting a sense of community and well-being. All the building work will also be harmonized by the transformation of the external spaces, which include the redevelopment of the courtyards and connecting axes by increasing the green areas, planting new trees and plants and removing the impermeable surfaces currently used for parking, with a view to greater environmental sustainability and climate adaptation.
Within the Engineering Campus, new buildings are planned, in particular the Spina della Didattica and the Giovanni Cottino Learning Center; the new Campus of Architecture, Design and Planning will instead be created through the redevelopment of three pavilions of the Torino Esposizioni complex. A third trajectory will therefore be specifically dedicated to innovation and research: the Innovation Hubs – a project that involves the construction of new technology centers for the Digital Revolution House, the Aerospace City, in Corso Marche, and the Mirafiori campus.
