Rethinking the urban future: the challenge of transitions, between heritage and future visions

Designing the future of urbanized territories begins with a deep understanding of the present and the legacies of the past. FULL – The Future Urban Legacy Lab is an applied research platform and a multidisciplinary network that connects different fields of knowledge to explore the social, economic, and technological changes involving cities and territories. The Center develops new scenarios and technical solutions through a laboratory-based approach, working with communities and institutions to support the physical and social transformation of places and the governance of inhabited spaces.

Success Stories

TOWN & GOWN: Cities Shaped by Student Populations

"The SMARTDEST project brought together eleven research centers and universities across Europe to map and understand how emerging forms of mobility—such as tourism and mobile dwelling—can generate social exclusion, imbalances, and conflict in urban settings.
In Turin, the focus was on the local impact of increasing flows of university students. Two additional research initiatives, MOVER LA MOVIDA and PRIN LINUS, were developed as spin-off projects.

Regenerating the “Pettine Blu” of Turin

Starting from a study on the cultural role and transformative potential of Valentino Park, FULL expanded its scope to the entire Po River corridor. This initial work led to the launch of an ambitious program titled “The Pettine Blu of Turin,” which explores the strategic role of the city's river system, its ecosystem value and its potential for transformation, especially in its relationship with surrounding urbanized areas.

Mezzaluna alpina

In partnership with the Municipality of Cuneo, the Mezzaluna Alpina project examines the social, economic, and territorial transformations occurring in Cuneo Alps. By combining quantitative data analysis with qualitative fieldwork, the project aims to understand daily life, work, mobility practices, and the aspirations of residents in the metro-mountain area.
The final report, Mezzaluna Alpina – Dynamics and Prospects of Metro-Mountain Territories, is the result of an in-depth process of listening and territorial needs assessment, supporting the development of strategic scenarios for sustainable growth and resource enhancement.

Re-School

Launched in collaboration with the Agnelli Foundation, this project focuses on regenerating Italy’s school infrastructure, addressing issues related to safety, sustainability, and educational innovation.
Its initial output was a study to help local authorities and school administrations ensure safe school re-openings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Among its various results, the project developed a web app enabling school communities to easily and interactively explore the transformation potential of their school buildings.
