The research activity at the Campus of Medicine and Biomedical Engineering within the PSRI (Health, Research and Innovation Park) is part of the ongoing debate on the long and complex process involved in the creation of the Health Park in Turin.
The aim is to explore the issues raised by the relevant public institutions, strengthening responsible development strategies. The research contributes to the ongoing decision-making processes by proposing project scenarios and organising meetings and round tables with the parties involved (the Region, the Municipality, the Local Health Authority, Unito, Polito, and the Superintendency).
The project scenarios, developed on the basis of concrete requests submitted by the actors involved, are the main tool for promoting a collaborative approach aimed at defining a shared solution that goes beyond sectoral interests. The contribution of the proposing structure was decisive in encouraging exchange between the actors involved, through the organisation of discussions based on the issues and critical points that emerged from dialogue with each of the actors involved. Knowledge and tools that had not been sufficiently invested in this specific area were therefore made available. A sort of “designing in the making” process ensured that the needs presented by the actors were simultaneously “spatialised” into possible design solutions.
This has led to increased awareness and, in some cases, a change in attitude among the actors involved. This was accompanied by a refinement of the processes of understanding in the scientific-cultural field (what to keep together, which functions to combine and which to keep separate), social (what kind of community is welcomed on the Campus and how this relates to the surrounding context), and institutional (promoting the exchange and expression of different interests - political, administrative, economic). In practical terms, this work has been reported over time in the form of various dossiers which, on the one hand, recounted the experience gained up to that point and, on the other, contributed to the discussion of the main critical issues that emerged during the process. The research work was also echoed in articles in the main local newspapers, some of which were published by the main actors involved in the process.
