Percorsi: concert by the Sedicetto of the Coro PoliEtnico
A concert as both map and route: the programme spans centuries, languages and geographies, weaving together madrigals, folk songs, contemporary spirituality and choral writing. Each piece represents a stage in a real and imaginary journey, across boundaries, memories and sonic elsewhere. In dialogue with the theme of the QU.EEN festival, singing becomes an act of discovery and wonder, capable of inhabiting the natural and the artificial spaces of Villa della Regina.
The concert Percorsi is divided into three sections: nature and artifice, focusing on the journey as discovery, exploration, play and wonder; journey through time; and elsewhere, beyond boundaries.
The Sedicetto of the Coro PoliEtnico is a chamber ensemble with a reduced line-up, directed by Matteo Gentile. It was established within the choir to enhance the diversity of the singers’ musical backgrounds, bringing together students with solid musical training and others with outstanding vocal potential, while also providing continuous educational stimulus.
The ensemble’s line-up, which may vary from semester to semester depending on availability and level, requires autonomy in reading and individual study, as it performs a more demanding and musically complex repertoire. The Sedicetto also enables the exploration of repertoire that the full choir would not be able to perform, both in terms of technical level and agility of execution.
Biography
Matteo Gentile (Turin, 1999) is a PhD candidate in Practices and Repertoires of Italian Music at the A. Vivaldi Conservatory in Alessandria. He holds a degree in Musicology from the University of Pavia and a diploma in Choral Conducting and Choral Composition from the “G. Verdi” Conservatory in Turin. He has further developed his training through the advanced course in musical aesthetics at P.I.A.M.S. and through masterclasses in choral conducting.
Since 2017, he has been активно engaged in choral conducting, founding and directing several choirs and vocal ensembles, including Novi Cantores Torino, and collaborating as assistant conductor with prestigious Turin-based institutions such as the Accademia Maghini, the Accademia Corale Stefano Tempia and the Corale Universitaria di Torino. In 2022 he was guest conductor of Coro G (dir. Carlo Pavese), and in 2024 of Coro Musicaviva.
