Polyglot Persistence in PIM - Event Sourcing with CouchDB and Neo4j

The seminar series organized as part of the Data Management and Visualization course of the Master’s Degree in Data Science and Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino is officially kicking off.
The first event will focus on the architectural evolution of Product Information Management (PIM) systems, with particular attention to Event Sourcing techniques and Polyglot Persistence approaches.

The series features professionals and experts from the industrial sector, with contributions from established companies such as Coolshop, Data Reply, and Storm Reply, offering students the opportunity to interact directly with practitioners working daily on the development and management of data-driven solutions.

The seminar will explore the combined use of two key NoSQL technologies in the presented project:
  • CouchDB, used as an Event Store to support Event Sourcing, ensuring auditability and robust conflict management;
  • Neo4j, adopted to optimize graph analysis and the traversal of complex catalog structures.
The session will also discuss major operational challenges related to managing NoSQL systems in production, including schema evolution and backup strategies in the absence of traditional relational tooling.
