Dynamics of Mechanisms and Mechanical Systems

A research line in this thematic area focuses on modal analysis, identification techniques (output-only and nonlinear), monitoring of structures and rotating machinery, and semi-active control of vibrating systems. Algorithms are developed for the analysis of structures (aerospace, mechanical, and civil) excited by unmeasurable inputs. Modal identification software, developed in-house, is used in the time, frequency, and time-frequency domains. This research area also includes investigations on model updating based on experimental dynamic tests using finite element models. This thematic area also encompasses research on active and regenerative dampers, electrodynamic and active magnetic bearings, and passive and semi-active suspensions. Furthermore, it is worth mentioning the research on vibrations of turbine blade elements, described in more detail in section 1B "Tribology".
