Regional Innovation Systems

A regional innovation system (RIS) encourages the rapid diffusion of knowledge, skills and best practice within a geographic area (from city level to country). RIS can be drawn conceptually and organizationally around the economic, social, political and institutional relationships that generate a collective learning process within a related group of technological or functional areas. Relevant avenues of research include the competitive dynamics of RIS and their impact on regional competitiveness, the study of regional technology specialization, the role of multiple actors (universities, VCs, policymakers…), complex system dynamics.
