Biography

Guglielmina Mutani is graduated Civil Engineer (1993), PhD in Energetics (1997), Assistant Professor (1999) and Associate Professor (2022) in Building Physics and Building Energy Systems at the Department of Energy, Politecnico di Torino (Italy). Her research activity is mainly focused on: energy certification of buildings, energy consumption models for space heating at district and urban scale, analyses of thermal comfort in the external environment, evaluation of renewable energy sources available on the territory and energy communities. The activities carried out mainly refer to national and international research programs; recently she participated in the following projects: ENEA (2025–27), WP1, Activity 1.9_ Design and implementation of a geo-package for the planning of CERs at territorial scale, Responsable person; PRIN 2022: Accident Risk reduCtion of vulnerAble roaD usErs: an interdisciplinary – multiperspective approach (ARCADE), IREN (2023-24), Green district heating Task 2.1 Solar thermal and cogeneration - technology and integration of DH network; ENEA (2022–24), Activity 1.6_GIS-based tools and methods for territorial scale energy planning of CERs; BIP Erasmus+ “Positive Energy Districts” - Quadnational Course on Integrated Spatial Planning Approaches Towards Green Universities workshop. Since 1996 she teaches in the School of Architecture and Urban Studies and Planning at Politecnico di Torino about the disciplines of Building Physics and Energy Systems; since 2017 she is member of Urban and Regional Development Ph.D. Program and since 2019 she is member of the scientific committee of the Responsible Risk Resilience Centre (R3C) at Politecnico di Torino.

Guglielmina Mutani graduated in Civil Engineer in 1993 at Politecnico di Torino (Italy) and her master’s degree thesis "Simulation techniques for the diffusion of pollutants in confined environments due to fires" was awarded by the Piedmont Region. In 1997 she achieved the Ph.D. in Energetics, in 1997 and 1998 she was a teacher assistant in Building Physics at Politecnico di Torino and won a research grant funded by the Piedmont Region. From 1999 she worked as Assistant Professor and since 2022 she is an Associate Professor of Building Physics and Building Energy Systems at Politecnico di Torino (Italy). She is the author of articles published in international journals and conferences’ proceedings indexed in SCOPUS and Web Of Science. She co-authored 10 books and 8 chapters (in Italian and in English). She is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal “Instrumentation Mesure Metrologie” (IIETA), Associate Editor of “Journal of Sustainability for Energy” (ACADlore) and is in the Editorial Board of “Journal of Infrastructure, Policy and Development” EnPress Ed and “TI-Italian Journal of Engineering Science” (IIETA). She is Guest Editor of “Sustainability” and "Applied Science" (MDPI) and “Energy Efficiency” (Springer). She is part of the scientific committee of some international conferences in the field of "Building energy modelling and renewable technologies". She is authorized to issue Energy Performance Certificates for buildings and is a registered professional engineer in Italy. Her research interests concern energy consumption models at building and urban scale, energy performance certification of buildings, energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies, and indoor/outdoor thermal comfort. She collaborates with universities and research institutions in Italy and abroad.
