Geospatial Approaches: to Urban Space Supply-Demand Simulation and Optimization for Livable Environments

Huang Jingxiong (Joint Ph.D. program between Politecnico di Torino and Tsinghua University) will discuss his ongoing research with the research fellow Xiaoxu Liang and the PhDs Xinwen Zhang (Politecnico di Torino) and Li Wang (Politecnico di Torino).

Urban issues like spatial mismatch and congestion stem from imbalanced supply-demand dynamics. This study uses geographic information science to simulate and optimize urban space by integrating perceptual and cognitive data. Objective visual quality and subjective preferences are modeled to reflect both environmental conditions and human experiences. Intelligent algorithms further enhance spatial efficiency through job-housing analysis and perceptual optimization. By quantifying perception and cognition, the approach supports evidence-based planning and promotes livable, human-centered urban environments.

The seminar will be held both in person, in the Sala Mollino, and online at this link.

Event coordinated by Camilla Forina and Leonardo Ramondetti.
