“PUBLIC” ARCHITECTURE “IN THE MAKING” - In the context of the emergence of rural scenic areas in China
The China Room PhD student Giulia Montanaro (XXXVII cycle, Joint Ph.D. program between Politecnico di Torino and Tsinghua University) will discuss her ongoing research with Antonio Di Campli and the China Room PhD candidate Sofia Leoni (XXXVIII cycle).
The research presented attempts to explore a paradigm shift from the assumption that public space is a definition to considering it as an evolving, dynamic process that needs to take into account the construction process. Focusing on the provision of public goods in rural areas, this work explores and questions how rural public space is emerging within China’s broader rural revitalisation strategy, highlighting the complex intersection between architectural practice within the construction industry and local, social and economic factors.
