He is currently a Ph.D. student in the Dipartimento di Elettronica e Telecomunicazioni (DET) at Politecnico di Torino, where it work within the Optical Communication Group (OptCom), under the supervision of Roberto Gaudino and Gabriella Bosco .
His research work is currently focused on investigating the use of Machine Learning algorithms in support of the Digital Signal Processing (DSP) techniques conventionally adopted for optical communication systems.+
In particular, together with Roberto Gaudino, he is currently developing efficient optimization algorithms based on Artificial Neural Networks ,in order to perform nonlinear Digital Pre-Distortion in Data Center Interconnects (DCI). Marketwise, most of short reach DCI with a range up to 100 meters are low cost IM-DD (Intensity Modulation-Direct Detection) optical links leveraging the use of Multi-Modal Fiber (MMF) and Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (VCSEL), which require the use of DSP blocks within the transceiver in order to reliably transmit at extremely high bit-rates (more than 100 Gbps per lambda).
Together with Gabriella Bosco, he is also investigating the use of Machine Learning-aided DSP in the field of Quality of Transmission (QoT) and Optical Performance Monitoring (OPM): in particular, developing efficient monitoring tools to estimate the Inter-Channel Interference (ICI) variations over gridless Nyquist-WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) Optical transport Networks (OTN).
