Abstract

The goal of the “Multi-Risk Resilience of Critical Infrastructures” Spoke is to define, develop and prove new approaches to the Risk Assessment and Reduction in the most important infrastructures in Italy, considering physical components and operating functions (usually responsible for cascading effects). The spoke will focus on natural and man-made hazards and will leverage the results from VS1 to VS4 hazard assessment and from the DS4 climate meteorology scenarios, in order to produce new and countrywide dynamic maps of hazard classification for links and critical nodes of the main road, railways, water and utility grids network infrastructures, as well as for point-like critical infrastructures, such as Dams, Power generation, Drinking Water and Wastewater facilities, including also man-made hazards. Also, the definition and quantification of the impact on citizens and economic activities of single/multiple failures in classes of infrastructures will be improved through scenario simulation criteria, that involve potential interactions between different hazard sources, cascading effects and interdependencies between CI components. Last, risk reduction goals on CIs will entail the development of IT tools and open knowledge-sharing methodologies that leverage the predictive maintenance paradigms, based on in-situ diagnostics, remote sensing techniques, AI recognition and deep learning systems, that will define systemic Early Warning solutions of overall protection available to all CIs stakeholders.
