Biography

Valentina Serra, Master Degree in Architecture, PhD in Building Physics, is currently Full Professor of Building Physics, vice coordinator of the Collegio di Architettura (School of Architecture Board) at Politecnico di Torino. She has been teaching different courses on building physics and environmental control techniques for 25 years. She has supervised about 180 Bachelor and Master thesis (mainly discussed at the School of Architecture). Member of PhD Boards since 2005, supervisor of 12 PhD students, external evaluator and member in 15 national and international Final Examination Committee. In 2020 member of the Evaluation Committee of the Free University of Bolzano, Faculty of Engineering. Since 2021 member of the Executive Board of the interdepartmental center FULL (Future Urban Legacy Lab) at Politecnico di Torino Her main research activity concerns the assessment of energy performance and IEQ aspects of advanced building envelope components (i.e. responsive building elements, dynamic glazing, double skin façades, shading devices, light ducts, green roofs, vertical greening systems, advanced hollow clay bricks) carried out through both experimental analysis and numerical modelling. In her career she has been involved in a relevant number of national and international competitive projects (in the last 10 years 1 PRIN, 6 POR-FESR, 3 H2020, 1 COST-ACTION, 1 LINKA) and research/consultancy contracts, acting both as scientific referent and researcher. Member of the Editorial Board of Energy and Buildings, Guest Editor for the Energy Procedia issue related to the SEB 2016 Conference, for “Engineering Sustainability” (September 2019), Guest Editor for Frontiers in Built Environment (September 2019). Reviewer for international scientific journals (Applied Energy, Solar Energy, Building and Environment, Energy and Building, Journal of Building Performance Simulation, Energy Efficiency). Member of the Organizing Committee of the International Building Physics IBPC 2015 and Roomvent 2020, both in Turin, and general co-chair of SEB 2016 Conference in Turin and 51st AiCARR International Conference, in Venice. Results of base oriented research and applied research have been published in more than 200 papers, published on national and international conference proceedings and on national and international journals and book chapters. Scopus metrics: 86 documents, more than 1500 citations, h-index 23. Scopus Author ID: 7004067687, ORCID: 0000-0002-9689-9406.
