Biography

Saverio Pellegrini received the bachelor degree in Electronic Engineering from Università Politecnica delle Marche in 2019. He then enrolled at Politecnico di Torino, from which he received the master’s degree in Communications and Computer Networks Engineering (CCNE) in 2022.

From May of the same year he is a Ph.D. candidate in Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering at Dipartimento di Elettronica e Telecomunicazioni (DET) at Politecnico di Torino, under the supervision of Prof. Roberto Gaudino. Here, he works with the Optical Communication Group (OptCom).

His research subject concerns optical fiber sensing, with particular focus on environmental monitoring. In cooperation with Geosolving srl and Roberto Gaudino, he took part to the Optialp project, with the purpose to develop a cutting-edge optical fiber monitoring system to detect avalanches, debris flows and rockfall impacts. From this project, a patent concerning polarization based monitoring system has been achieved.

Currently, he is working on the characterization of anomalous vibrational events such as earthquakes, debris flows, or anthropological activities happening on deployed fibers, mainly in urban enviroments. To reach this purpose, he is pursuing experiments on real fibers installed over metropolitan areas, and developing DSP and ML learning aided algorithms.
