Biography

Giulio Marchese has been an Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT) since 2024. He was an Assistant Professor from 2018 to 2024. The research activity of Giulio Marchese is chiefly focused on the development and characterization of high-temperature materials processed by Additive Manufacturing (AM), such as electron beam powder bed fusion (EB-PBF) and laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). The research activities are related to the optimization of the process parameters to obtain dense materials and/or tailor the microstructure, as well as the development of subsequent heat treatments to modify the microstructure and consequently, the mechanical performance. More in detail, he has been mainly working on the de Ni-based superalloys, Ni-based composite alloys, refractory metals, and intermetallic materials. Giulio Marchese has been working on different projects, and he is the author and co-author of more than 70 scientific papers published in international peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings.

Scientific branch

IMAT-01/A - Materials Science and Technology
(Area 0009 - Industrial and information engineering)

Research topics

  • Development and characterization of metal alloys and composite materials processed by Addtivie Manufacturing (AM) processes such as electron beam powder bed fusion (EB-PBF) and laser powder bed fusion (LPBF).
  • Study of the microstructure and development of tailored heat treatments in order to improve the mechanical performance of the materials. The activity is primarily focused on high-temperature materials, including Nickel-based superalloys, Nickel-based composite materials, Refractory metals such as Molybdenum, and intermetallic materials like titanium aluminide (TiAl).
