Biography

Francesca De Marinis obtained a Master's Degree in Civil Engineering (Transport Infrastructure and Systems programme) in March 2025. Her thesis, "Satellites-enhanced railway systems: affordable positioning for next-generation freight trains and related applications" focused on rail transport and the use of satellite positioning technologies applied to transport systems, including the performance assessment of innovative freight train systems and their potential benefits for the railway sector. Her research career began with a research grant at DIATI, an experience that strengthened her interest in applied research and innovation in the railway field.
She is currently a PhD student in Energetics, with research activities focused on the simulation of railway and metro operations, infrastructure capacity analysis and energy optimization aimed at improving the performance, efficiency, and reliability of rail transport systems.
