Virtual sensors for estimating vehicle status. Electro-hydraulic and electromechanical shock absorbers for active suspension and energy recovery.

Scientific branch

IIND-03/A - Mechanical Design and Machine Construction
(Area 0009 - Industrial and information engineering)

Research topics

  • Electric and hybrid vehicles. Optimization of the electric and hybrid powertrain including ICE, electric motors, power electronics and battery. Energy management in hybrid and electric powertrains. Integration of electric motors and power electronics in hybrid powertrains. Longitudinal and lateral vehicle dynamics. Tilting vehicles dynamics. Virtual sensors for vehicle dynamics state estimation.
  • Magnetic bearings. Centralised and decentralised control systems for active magnetic bearings, contactless sensing systems, conical bearings and motor-bearings integration. Electrodynamic bearings for rotor and maglev applications, with special focus on modelling techniques and solutions for insuring the stable operation. Active and passive magnetic dampers for the vibration control of rotating machines (aero-engines), and for the vibration control and isolation of high precision industrial processes.
  • Mechatronic systems for autonomous and connected vehicles: electro-hydraulic and electro-mechanical shock absorbers for active suspension and energy recovery. Active chassis systems such as anti-roll bar and height adjustment.
  • Piezoelectric actuation. Model based design of piezoelectric transducers for the actuation and vibration control. Application of piezoelectric actuators for the control of Diesel common rail injectors. Use of piezoelectric actuators for pressure control of hydraulic systems.
  • Rotordynamic analysis. Formulation of harmonic type finite elements for modelling turbine disc and blade arrays. Modelling of rotors including electromechanical actuators (such as active or passive magnetic bearings). Modelling and experimental validation of turbine rotors for aerospace and civil applications.
