Biography

Jacopo Fiorenza is a PhD student in the Department of Computer and Control Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino. After earning his degree in Cinema and Media Engineering in 2022, he joined the GRAINS (GRaphics And INtelligent Systems) and VR@POLITO research groups, where he primarily works on eXtended Reality (XR) technologies for education, training, and knowledge exchange. His research focuses on applying XR to Cultural Heritage, with particular attention to cultural institutions such as museums, historical buildings, and archaeological sites. His studies also explore a variety of Digital Transformation Technologies (DTTs), including 3D reconstruction technologies (e.g., laser scanning), description models (e.g., BIM), and Large Language Models. By combining XR with other DTTs, his research aims to enhance education, accessibility, and heritage preservation within the Cultural Heritage field.
In 2023, he joined the Virtual Reality(VR)/Augmented Reality Lab at the LINKS Foundation, where he worked on a VR study involving an LLM (GPT-4), a metaverse application, and a VR workshop to promote cultural engagement. From the same year, has also started a collaboration with several cultural institutions, including historical buildings in Turin, Italy, such as Palazzo Carignano and Palazzo Madama.
