Biography

Irene Carmagnola ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca in Ingegneria Biomedica nel 2013 presso il Politecnico di Torino. Attualmente è Ricercatrice (RTDB) presso il Dipartimento di Ingegneria Meccanica e Aerospaziale del Politecnico di Torino . La sua attività di ricerca è principalmente focalizzata nella progettazione, fabbricazione e caratterizzazione di scaffold a base di biomateriali polimerici e nelle nanotecnologie applicate al campo biomedico ed in particolare all’Ingegneria Tissutale. In particolare ha utilizzato tecniche convenzionali (elettrospinning) e tecniche di additive manufacturing (fused deposition modeling, Bioprinting e melt-electrowriting) per ingegnerizzare scaffold per l’Ingegneria Tissutale e per modelli di tessuto per la validazione di terapie avanzate. In questo contesto ha studiato la preparazione per miscelazione o sintesi di polimeri di idrogeli da utilizzare come “inchiostro” per le tecniche di stampa 3D per ottenere costrutti cellularizzati. Parallelamente ha sviluppato rivestimenti nanostrutturati, sfruttando strategie innovative (la tecnica al plasma, la tecnica layer-by-layer e approcci biomimetici) per diverse applicazioni, quali stent coronarici, guarigione delle ferite, rigenerazione di tessuti molli e superfici antibatteriche. Ha anche esperienza nel campo del trasferimento tecnologico dei risultati della ricerca, come dimostrano il brevetto e l’azione di coordinamento di un finanziamento proveniente da un’azienda biomedica (ATOS Medical), tramite il Consorzio Interuniversitario Istituto Nazionale per le Ricerche Foniatriche Foniatria. La sua produzione scientifiche consta di 25 articoli scientifici, 4 capitoli di libri e più di quaranta partecipazioni a convegni nazionali e internazionali.
