Biography

Architect and designer, full professor of Design at the Politecnico di Torino, he is a scholar of design-oriented production systems, both in industry and craftsmanship. He publishes journal articles and monographs, curates exhibitions and conducts competitive research at a national and international level. As expert in product and process design, he has developed new methodologies for validating well-being for highly accessible indoor and outdoor spaces and for solutions capable of maximizing UX satisfaction. He currently leads the UXD PoliTO team, made up of researchers active in the development of HCD, UXD, HMI, and ID design and evaluation techniques for various sectors: transportation systems, service and social robotics, cultural heritage, and more. In 2015, for innovative AR and VR applications, he received the Fondazione Maxxi Roma Award, “Digital Think in. The digital voice of museums,” for the Virgil Project, a robot for exploring inaccessible museum spaces (with TIM JolCrab, Associazione Le Terre dei Savoia, and the Management of Castello di Racconigi). Since 2022, he has been a member of the scientific committee of MIRA, a project of the Turin Design Circle on the direction and economics of design in Piemonte (with the University of Turin – Department of Economics and Statistics, Fondazione Santagata, IRES Piemonte, and CNR-IRCrES). From 2018 to 2020, he was president of the Italian Scientific Society of Design.
