Promoting reading for the future
Duration: from 02/2022 to 04/2023
Scientific Coordinator: Marco Mellia
Project Type: Project funded by competitive grant
PoliTO Role: Project coordinator
The Reading (&) Machine project of the Department of Control and Computer Engineering of the Politecnico di Torino aims to exploit the opportunities that artificial intelligence and augmented reality technologies offer to bring people closer to reading first and foremost, and at the same time to enjoy reading places such as libraries and bookshops, in an innovative and hybrid way, combining the real and the virtual in a new challenge of access to reading.
The aim of the project is to create new ways of exploring and experiencing books and libraries, exploiting digital technologies to increase participation and social inclusion, stimulating participation, frequenting libraries, and consolidating the habit of reading.
The project aims to:
- design and implement a recommendation system, with the help of artificial intelligence technologies.
- create an innovative mechanism for exploring library and book collections in general, using recommendation systems.
- adapt recommendation systems to the world of physical books to enhance and enrich the reading experience.
The Reading (&) Machine project moves as a whole to study and propose innovative methods based on artificial intelligence algorithms and the use of augmented and virtual reality technologies for access to reading and libraries.
In particular, augmented and virtual reality technologies will be combined with apps and touch technologies for smartphones and tablets, to present the result of the processing to the user through both physical and virtual systems.
