Abstract
The activities will cover various types of physical and chemical/electrochemical energy storages. Disruptive concepts for short-to-long term thermal storage systems based on sensible heat (geothermal), latent heat (advanced PCM) and thermochemical will be developed, as well as innovative mechanical storage systems based on water, compressed air and kinetic energy. To prioritize the batteries development, a cutting-edge research, from concept to product, will be developed, improving energy performances, sustainability, durability, reducing costs and ensuring high quality and safety. Generations 3, 4 and above 4 will be addressed. Optimization of established technologies, such as Pb-acid and redox flow batteries (RFBs), as well as carbon supercapacitors (CSs), is planned. The approach related to chemical storage, will be focused on new disruptive concepts related to reactive metals, photo-charged nano-particles, electrofuels and hydrogen carriers. Activities will be completed by advanced integration in systems and networks, as well as overall cost-benefit analysis, LCC and LCA
