Abstract
The present research activity is dedicated to investigate and identify the most adequate configuration of belt drive system to optimize the performance of P1f hybrid architecture. The P1f architecture is attractive because it allows to introduce several benefits of hybrid powertrains with minimal impact on the actual layouts of powertrains and chassis. From the functional point of view, some modifications are needed to be introduces considering that the bidirectional effect of the torque developed by the electric machine (generator/motor). In addition to that, there are some issues that are needed to be fixed in order to avoid that the main benefits of the P1f architecture are vanished mainly by the internal losses of the belt transmission system. The main role is played by the tensioning device that should be reconsidered being the actual automatic tensioners not functional for the dual mode of operation of the electric machine. Several configurations have been proposed (Dual Arm Tensioner (Mubea DAT), Active tensioner (Dayco Smarten, Lytens), Double arm tensioner (Fengmao). At the moment it is not clear what solution is the most adequate considering the aspects of functionality and efficiency performance. The main objective of the activity are therefore that of identifying the most adequate configuration of tensioning system in term of layout impact, cost, functionality and effect on the efficiency of the system. The functionality and the efficiency performance will be carried out by means of a dedicated model (that will be one of the outputs of the project) and by experimental tests that will be carried out on a dedicated test rig available in Polito.
